The Wake Forest Christmas parade was a great opportunity for
the people of Wake Forest to get a good look at our Electric Vehicle.
Before the parade even started, over one hundred people came over to the
car to look at it. The reactions of the people along the parade route were
outstanding. Our vehicle sponsors were also impressed with our presence in
the parade.
On April 21st of 2004 our EV was a welcomed element at the Research Triangle IBM Earth Day celebration. We were able to share our EV program with over 400 families from the IBM Corporation, and because this day was also “bring your kid to work day” it allowed us to share our car with kids and adults alike. This IBM location in the Research Triangle Park is a company with approximately 16,000 employees. This event is where we received a great deal of interest for our EV program with over 2,000 event-goers coming and going throughout the day. This event helps spread the word of environmental awareness by letting people know what is possible. We believe it is important to inform and share the knowledge of our project with as many people as possible so they can further understand the need to conserve resources and have a better understanding of our earth and its condition. We hope in the future to participate more in these types of events so that we may continue our education of the community in our ongoing EV project.
Every year, the EV Challenge takes part in the North Carolina State Fair by displaying the Mobile Classroom and the electric vehicles that were designed and built by High School Students as part of the EV Challenge. Students from the WF-R EV Team participated in this effort to inform the public about the EV Challenge. We engaged spectators and spoke to them about how electric vehicles may provide a viable alternative to internal combustion vehicles.
On February 7th 2004, we went to the Winter Open House at Blue Jay Point. Here we were able to share our knowledge of electric vehicles by answering questions and discussing the benefits with over 500 people. Similar to Earth Day, this was a great opportunity to teach others about environmental awareness. The theme of the event was “Air Quality”, this was perfect since our project is in direct correlation with this theme. The people running the event were very excited to have us come and share our project with the parents and kids and personally invited us to attend the event.
