Our mission is to promote awareness in the community and to protect the quality of life and water on which we depend. We are committed to the pursuit of ecological and social change to think globally and act locally. Rapid depletion of non-renewable resources, climate change and pollution provide critical motivation for people to understand it is no longer acceptable to be ignorant of our impacts. We would like to prove a constant reminder of our responsibilities to act in order to protect the environment and try to preserve a cleaner world for future generations.
Shockwave is the first attempt for Wake Forest-Rolesville High School students, with little or no experience, to convert a polluting 1986 RX-7 into a high-performance, emission-free vehicle to compete in the 2001 EV Challenge. Students from a variety of classes contributed to the success of our EV program. Some of the classes involved were Mr. Sander's Transportation Systems class, Mr. Perry's Auto Collision Technology II class, Ms. Flores' A.P. Environmental Science classes, Rob Whitley's Marketing class and Mr. Richard's A.P. Physics class. Mr. Sander's Transportation Systems Class is responsible for keeping the EV Program alive with valuable assistance from the teacher and students in Environmental Science, Communication Systems, and Technology Studies.
Throughout our development of our Electric Vehicle, we have learned that many people and businesses are concerned about our current environmental situations. Through their financial support and encouragement, these advocates have been a key factor in the success of our endeavor. We have also learned teamwork, responsibility, communication skills, as well as some of the major issues that involve our use of precious resources, foreign policy, and environmental impacts.
Over the last couple years, the Wake Forest- Rolesville (WF-R) EV Team has won numerous awards through teamwork and participation from other classes.
All through the year the WF-R EV Team has gained attention from attending numerous events and competitions. We have been featured in a few newspapers like The Wake Weekly , as well as our school publication, The Forest Fire. The Communications class has designed an outstanding web-site for engaging and informing the public of our project and coverage throughout the year. This coverage has given the EV Team much recognition from the school and community.
