Many sources are available to help you research careers. These include libraries, career information guides, the Internet, school counselors, career development coordinators, career conferences, and many other related activities. The U.S. Department of Labor publishes three of the leading career information guides that help people learn about occupations and career options. The guides are usually found in your local library, school library, or school student services office. All are available online.

(O*NET) is gradually replacing the dictionary of Occupational Titles. The O*NET database identifies and describes the key components of modern occupations. It provides the latest information needed for effective training, education, counseling, and employment of workers.

A resource for students, parents, guidance counselors, and others. It offers information and related Web sites for career exploration and planning as well as tools for examing your interests and personality to help identify suitable careers. Information on training and apprenticeships, applying to college, and pursuing a military career is also provided.

A good predictor of performance in Education, training, and job performance situations. It is appropriate for high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors, and students in postsecondary schools. Although developed to help place people in the military, it can help individuals identify their aptitudes for careers outside the military. This test is given at WF-R H.S. once a year. See your Career Development Coordinator in Student Services to sign up for the test.

If you are interested in learning more about journalism, for example, you can enter that word in a search engine and it will find web sites for you that relate to that topic.
